Warminster

On Tuesday 22nd February 2011, 13 cadets and 3 staff from 13 (City of Exeter) Squadron visited the British Army's Land Training Fleet (Warminster) in Wiltshire. We were shown around the fleet of vehicles currently operational in Afghanistan by a staff sergeant, and explained to about their individual features, role in Afghan, popularity amongst the soldiers, and operational ability. The fleet ranged from the combat quad bike, to the Warrior armored personnel carrier and Mastiff 2, and we were given the opportunity to spend time exploring the fleet and testing their external and internal equipment.

From Warminster, we travelled back via the Fleet Air Arm museum at RNAS Yeovilton. Here we looked around the museum and were lucky to benefit from a presentation by a Royal Navy Lieutenant on the Navy's current counter piracy operations in the Indian Ocean and Gulf regions.

A big thanks to Fg Off Chris Gill for organising the half term day trip, we all really enjoyed both visits and ability to have a hands on learning experience on current military operations.
