Supacat visit

16 Cadets and 2 staff enjoyed a fantastic visit to Supacat, the Devon firm who produce armoured, high mobility vehicles for the MOD, hundreds of which are currently deployed in Afghanistan. We enjoyed a tour of the factory, looking at both Supacat’s ongoing innovative military and civil projects. We were then whisked away to the company’s “secret test track in Somerset”. The Squadron was driven around the highly demanding off-road track, featuring some jaw dropping near vertical slopes (on which the Jackal could actually stop and reverse back up!) by the companies drivers in Jackal, Coyote and "All Terrain Mobility Platform" (ATMP) vehicles, including some fantastic high speed ATMP off-roading by the Supercat’s Exhibition & Demo Coordinator, an ex Royal Marine driving instructor. After the provided lunch the all Cadets were give the memorable opportunity to actually drive the 7 ½ tonne, 80mph+ Jackal themselves around the test track!

As one of the senior cadets was heard to remark after …” that’s the best thing I’ve done in 5 years in the ATC”

13 Squadron would like to thank Supacat Ltd for a tremendous day out.
